to what people are expecting from the first lady michelle obama's speech tonight. >> look, that is part of the reason for the excitement because first of all, have you these people and the configuration as you can see behind me, i'm above the podium which is a really great vantage point. as you can see, people are -- very, few people, very few delegations are actually on the floor. it is a bowl. they are up and around on the sides. that is, i think, making it sound a lot larger, louder, than it actually might be. it is very loud. they are very excited and they are not all here yet. there are a lot of empty seats. typically people are at dinner now but will be here in time for the keynote address. people are excited to hear castro the keynote speaker, but principally this is michelle obama's night. she is already throughout the campaign. they sent sought an e-mail a half hour ago asking people to text and send in $3 donations in advance of her speech. she told ryan seacrest today on his radio show she had not watched ann romney's speech and came here briefly to look at the stage and look

it the walkthrough. they get to practice a bit on the the teleprompter. you see that to the side of michelle obama. reading off of a teleprompter is an unnatural act. it's not easy to do. you have to move your head back and forth and keep following along and engage the audience at the same time, which is not easy, and engage the television audience. she's getting applause right now. >> and she's practicing a little bit. as important as the reception she gets for the 20,000 or 25,000 delegates and guests inside the arena, what's sho much more important is the reception sh gets from the 40 or 50 million viewers out there, many of them still undecided. >> and i think the bar is set pretty high for her. she now has this many years later quite a bit of public speaking experience. she tends to do pretty well, i think you'll agree, when she's speaking at events. large events, small events. thinks going to be one of the speeches most anticipated throughout this entire week. >> and ann romney gave a good speech in tampa. >> both will reach out to the all important women voters. president obama has a dozen

michelle obama will be marking the moments on the south lawn. >> on this anniversary of the 9/11 attacks we pause now to remember that moment when the first plane hit the world trade center. >> it was so important health wise to remind women, you know, check your expiration date because it's a health risk. >> that was kris jenner of the kardashian family. c's "today" show not pausing for that moment of silence defending itself the next day saying it's not something we do. finally the president giving this statement to "the new york times." we made an editorial call resulting in the september 11 moment of silence not being seen. while we dedicated a substantial amount of airtime to anniversary events, we still touched a nerve with many of your viewers, and for that we apologize. >> i don't know. these things do not have the same resonance. december 1 1rks 1941, we don't all stop on -- >> to remember. >> pearl harbor day and remember it. and we used to, right? i don't know in history at what point that stopped but that is something that, you know, news networks have to grapple with. at what p

tonight. i've got to you if tonight is essentially afterglow from michelle obama's speech or is there a separate second night agenda for the democrats here leading up to the bill clinton speech? >> rachel, it looked for awhile there there were two versions of the democratic party. there was the clinton version and the barack obama version. that was a wrong perception a lot of us had. there are, in fact, two complimentary parts to the democratic party. the clinton part and the obama part. when they are together, it is a robust political party. when they are separated by division or bad feeling, they are not a strong political party. the clinton case has to come back for obama to win. it looks like it's coming back starting tonight. >> chris, are there any substantive differences between those two parts of the party you're talking about? any differences between clinton and obama that either need to be resolved or glossed over in order to make this sort of remarriage tonight work for the president? >> i don't know if it comes down to policy, but it certainly comes down to pol

the democrats had a more organized, more consistent message. they had better speakers. michelle obama, bill clinton, president obama did a better job making their case, selling their case to the american people. one other thing, though. that 47% remark governor romney made at that fund-raiser back in may that was released just last week, that's breaking through. i was in michigan last week. when you travel the country and talk to people, if you talk to pollsters they say it has hurt governor romney again on that fundamental question, who would best handle the economy and who represents your values. that has hurt. >> gloria, thank you. john king, thanks. >>> we got breaking news ahead on the program. for months, we have been reporting on charities that take your money and then n't deliver on their promises. tonight, the single largest fund-raising company in the world, quadriga art, will now have to answer questions from the u.s. senate about their financials. ome ♪ ♪ to look at [ sighs ] ♪ oh, he's shaggy ♪ and he eats like a hog [ male announcer ] the volkswagen jetta. available wi
